Whistleblowers
Rewards of Exposing Fraud against the Government
Under the United States False Claims Act, individuals (typically employees) who become aware of fraud against the government can file a lawsuit on behalf of the government to recover the fraudulent payments, and then be awarded between 15% and 30% of the amount recovered by the government (even if they participated in the improper conduct).
These whistleblower cases can arise in almost any situation in which a corporation has business dealings or interaction with the federal government (and many state governments). Here are some examples:
• Government contractors who charge the government for services they did not provide, for products they did not use, or pad bills at inflated prices when completing government contracts.
• Health care service providers who cause patients to overutilize services paid for by Medicare and Medicaid
Health care equipment providers who allow or encourage the use of their equipment for uses which are not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement.
Bid rigging or price fixing in connection with government contracts.
If you are aware of any of these illegal practices or simply want additional information, contact us.
